AreaWP’s marketing leads with “WP Ultimo is dead — switch to AreaWP.” That framing is misleading. WP Ultimo’s commercial development paused in 2022–2023, but the codebase, the add-ons, the plugin/theme manager, the Stripe and PayPal Connect proxies, and the entire ecosystem moved to Ultimate Multisite — the community-maintained continuation. We have shipped 26 plugins under active maintenance, 4 years of community releases, and an open-source roadmap.
